New search data shows that interest in self storage across Newcastle and Gateshead increases by nearly 70% from winter lows to the summer peak.
Searches begin to climb from February, reaching their highest point as students move out of term-time accommodation and the region enters its busiest period for summer house moves.
Analysis of five years of UK search data for the term "self storage Newcastle" shows searches consistently bottoming out over the winter months, typically between November and February, before climbing through spring and hitting their highest point somewhere between May and July. Search volumes for the term rose from an average of around 225 searches a month across November and December 2025, the quietest point of the year, to an average of around 380 a month across May, June and July 2026, the busiest stretch, a rise of almost 70% between those two periods
This seasonal trend has remained consistent since at least 2019, with search interest falling during winter before picking up in spring and reaching its highest levels in late spring or summer. The recurring rise coincides with students leaving halls and shared accommodation at the end of the academic year, alongside the increase in household moves that typically takes place during the warmer months.

Newcastle and Gateshead don't slow down in summer the way people might expect, if anything it's our busiest stretch, so booking ahead of that June rush really does make life easier."
For Newcastle and Gateshead households working out when to book storage, whether to bridge a house move or see a student through the summer break, the data suggests booking ahead of the June rush is the more comfortable option, before demand and availability both tighten up.
